NBC JEEP® WORLD OF ADVENTURE SPORTS HEADS TO WORLD’S LARGEST DESERT FOR "THE RACE OF NO RETURN"
August 27 show features a special 1.5 hour episode of desert trekking, mountain biking, sailing, free climbing, MotoGP and surfing
PORTLAND, Maine, Aug 9, 2005 NBC's Jeep® World of Adventure Sports (JWOAS), an action and adventure sports series, will air its next episode on Saturday, August 27 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Hosted by Pat Parnell of NBC Sports, the program will features an array of outstanding action and adventure sports events.
The next episode includes:
- The Gobi March, a six-stage, 250-kilometer trek across the Gobi Desert of China. Competitors carry their own food, gear and clothing while navigating through rivers, high plains, mountains, valleys, rocky terrain and sand dunes. Locals renamed the event "The Race of No Return" believing no competitor could finish such a demanding course.
- The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Raceway Laguna Seca ( Calif. ) -- MotoGP, the pinnacle of motorcycle road racing, returns to the United States after more than a decade absent. Four American riders, including Nicky Hayden, battle 4-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi on their home turf in front of a sell-out crowd of 57,000 spectators. Considered the world's fastest motorbikes, these million dollar, 990cc two-wheel machines are equipped with over 240 horsepower and reach top speeds that may exceed 215 mph.
- Camp Jeep®, a festival in the Poconos featuring the Jeep King of the Mountain Professional Mountain Biking World Championships. In this final race of the series, sixteen top riders push their skills to the limit on a Y track where they must conquer a series of unforgiving obstacles.
- A profile of free climber Michael Reardon and his free soloing ascent up Tahquitz Rock, near Idyllwild , California . Reardon, rock star and entrepreneur, puts his life on the line to feel the freedom of climbing without a rope.
- The Red Bull Recon, a mountain bike expedition trip to Baja , Mexico featuring six of the world's best freeriders: Berrecloth, Bourdon, Chase, Gracia, Strait, and Zink.
- A preview of surfing film "Unsalted", a documentary detailing a surf trip through 8 states, 5 Great Lakes , and 2 countries.
